Sun Basket: The (Organic) Think-Proof Meal Delivery System

I've discovered a game changer. Well, actually, it was my husband who discovered it, so he gets the credit for the major time-saver I'm about to gush over...and don't worry, I've got you covered with a discount!

The majority of our meals are prepared in our kitchen, from scratch, using organic ingredients, primarily gluten-free, soy-free and dairy-free. While I've found some incredible recipes, the whole process just wears me out. I can't eat the same thing over and over so you'll constantly catch me:

  • Researching recipes
  • Altering the ones that don't fit my criteria
  • Making a grocery lists
  • Grocery shopping (or sending for Instacart - think smarter, not harder my friends)
  • Semi-following recipes (Confession: I never completely follow any recipe, I really just need to know what the ingredients are and I make them do what I want)
  • Serving said "recipes"

Even with the time and energy saver of instacart, I still feel like I'm spending way too much time thinking about and preparing food. Enter Sun Basket

Sun Basket is a weekly delivery service which provides you with pre-measured organic and non-GMO ingredients for three incredible meals of your choice. Oh, and the meals are delish! Got dietary restrictions? They have options for most of us!

Here's how it works:

Each week, you choose up to 3 meals from their menu, which includes a breakfast option. There are 8 new recipes to choose to from every week and are always identified as:

  • Gluten Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Soy Free
  • Vegetarian and/or
  • Paleo

All ingredients are seasonal and hand selected from the best farms on the Pacific Coast with the majority of which are organic. The non-vegetarian ingredients are sourced responsibly featuring grass-fed, antibiotic free pastured meats and sustainable seafood.

Each recipe is created by a top San Francisco chef and approved by a nutritionist, and let's face it, something like this makes us cook with ingredients we might not have otherwise. I mean, sometimes I eliminate a recipe option just because it calls for a hard to find ingredient or too many ingredients because I know I'll waste the excess and quite frankly, don't want to overcomplicate shopping and prep.

All you have to do is indicate if you're cooking for 2 or 4 people, select your desired recipes for the week and boom! Half your week is taken care of! You control which weeks ship or skip, and you have until each Thursday to change your mind or update preferences for the following week.

The ingredients arrive separated in their respective meal bag, fresh and cold in an insulated box, in the most eco-friendly way, mind you; everything is recyclable and compostable

For our family of 3, the meal plan for 2 still provides enough food for two adults and 3-year old, though Sun Basket is currently working on a family plan to come soon!

Grilled Chicken Tacos

Our first meal was relatively simple, and I know we could all do this ourselves, but do you see how much cabbage, cilantro and cheese they included? Enough for our 6 tacos. Notice the tomato paste? I didn't have to open a whole can. I also didn't have to roast those red peppers! I also wouldn't have bought radishes on my own but they were great! There was also a seasoning for the chicken which was not pictured.

Prep and cooking was such a breeze, seriously I must've said it to myself 14 times while making the meal, which only took about 15-20 minutes from start to finish. Tacos were great and we were full, so it was an easy night!

Ratatouile with Freekah and Ricotta Salata

Then there was ratatouille. Not only had I never made ratatouille, I'd never tasted it... I'd only ever seen the movie. This was a one of our vegetarian options and even as I was making it I didn't think I was going to like it but turns out: it was our favorite.

Super delicious meal featuring several ingredients I'd never pick up myself in the grocery store. I had seconds, there was plenty of food to go around. Total win.

Steak and Eggs with Tomato Cauliflower Rice

I know Steak and Eggs is a thing, but I'd never made it until now. I really liked this recipe with the cauliflower rice and the scallion-maple syrup oil - A simple touch that added a ton of flavor.

I have only recently enjoyed sunny side eggs, and it was a perfect topping to the meal. Sawyer doesn't eat enjoy meat very often, but I scrambled her an egg which she gobbled up along with the cauliflower rice.

This isn't my first meal delivery service I've tried, in fact, I tried another organic service but I didn't get to choose my meals. I was only allowed to select ONE "Diet": Vegetarian, Paleo or Gluten-free and was sent the assigned the 3 meals in that category. They also marinate many of the ingredients for you, which could be fine, except they choose to use avocado oil for everything, which I'm allergic to and there is no way to request alterations.

So needless to say, I'm a bigger fan of Sun Basket. Their meals come out to $11.49 each and they also offer a money back guarantee if you aren't satisfied. It's safe to say they are safe to try! Shipping is on them for the first delivery, then $5.99 thereafter.

My readers get 3 FREE meals with their first shipment by clicking this link to sign up.

You'll have access to your schedule which you can choose to "Schedule" or "Skip" deliveries. My preference is to set "Skip" to all the weeks and let the reminder email trigger me to go in an choose meals by Thursday for the following week.
